The local authority for the Merseyside (England) town of St Helens, which is home to a population of around 103,000, has notified ISPreview of a new digital infrastructure project that aims to invest £2.5m to deploy a fibre optic network to support businesses across the town centre with gigabit-capable broadband.

The recent dispute between residents in the seaside town of Southport (Merseyside) and Openreach reached UK parliament yesterday, with the local Conservative MP, Damien Moore, claiming that an alleged “whistleblower” had revealed that the broadband builder was sidestepping its own rules on pole deployments.

Angry residents living on Griffiths Drive in Southport (England) have used their cars to block access to the street in an effort to prevent Openreach from deploying poles. The new infrastructure is necessary in order for the operator to deploy their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband ISP network.

Police have been called in after vandals caused “extensive” damage to part of Netomnia’s (supported by UK ISP YouFibre) new full fibre broadband network in Liverpool, where the operator is currently investing £39 million on a large deployment project. The High Court (King’s Bench Divison) has once again blocked a questionable crowd-funded legal challenge by the Action Against 5G campaign, which had been attempting to disrupt the UK rollout of 5G (mobile broadband) over fears that the government was being “unlawful” in “failing to protect the public from the health risks from 5G.“

Some 150 businesses based on the Sci-Tech Daresbury site have become the first to benefit from a new 212km full fibre broadband and Ethernet network called LCR Connect, which is being built as part of a £30m project backed by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, ITS Technology and NGE.
