Telecoms analyst Point Topic has today revealed that the average cost of standalone broadband packages (tariffs) offered to consumers has continued to fall for superfast fibre optic and cable based broadband ISP packages, yet the price of slower DSL (e.g. ADSL2+) services has stayed fairly flat.

Tim Johnson, a telecoms analyst for Point Topic, has called the UK government’s target for having the “best superfast broadband in Europe by 2015” both “not relevant to Britain’s needs” and “not achievable“. Johnson instead called for the new Culture Secretary, Maria Miller, to replaced it with a more “intelligent” goal.

Point Topic’s Tim Johnson has told the Broadband Forum’s quarterly meeting in Bucharest that UK and EU plans to deploy superfast broadband are at risk of putting too much emphasis on headline speeds and “not enough on the user experience“, with 40 million homes in Europe still unable to get even basic speeds of 2Mbps (Megabits per second).

Telecoms analyst Point Topic has today published a new UK map of broadband speed availability, which claims that 13% of UK homes and businesses (nearly 4 million premises) still can’t receive internet download speeds of above 2Mbps (Megabits per second) and most are in rural areas.

Telecoms analyst Point Topic has today revealed that some 10% (2 million+) of the United Kingdom’s fixed line ISP subscribers were connected via a superfast broadband (25Mbps+) service at the start of July 2012, which leaves 16.3 million on standard broadband products with sub-25Mbps speeds (total 21.3 million). But problems remain.

The CEO of Telecoms analyst firm Point Topic UK, Oliver Johnson, has claimed that political leaders, such as Ex-PM Tony Blair, who “are not brave” or knowledgeable enough to invest in a better broadband infrastructure, could be costing the world economy an estimated £0.89 Trillion (annually) in lost tax revenue.

Telecoms analyst firm Point Topic UK has today revealed that the world is now home to a total of 612.6 million fixed line broadband ISP subscribers, which is up by 2.7% on the 597 Million recorded in Q4-2011 (growth was slightly lower at 2.6% during Q4-2011); some 42.5% of global net additions came from China alone.

The latest market forecast from telecoms analyst firm Point Topic has predicted that the UK will be home to a total of 25.9 million broadband ISP lines by the end of 2016 (currently 20,736,500), with 10.8 million coming from superfast “FTTx” (fibre optic) connections (“28 times the total FTTx lines recorded for Q4 2011“).

The Broadband Forum and UK telecoms analyst firm Point Topic have today reported that the world added 65.49 Million new broadband ISP lines in 2011 and ended the year (Q4-2011) with a global total of 597 Million. Sadly quarterly growth was down from 3.08% in Q3-2011 to just 2.6% in Q4.

Analyst firm Point Topic has today joined with the European Commission (EC) to launch “the most detailed broadband coverage mapping survey ever made across Europe,” which will be used to monitor any progress by telecoms operators towards the EU’s Digital Agenda goals.
