The boss of mobile operator Three UK, David Dyson, has added fuel to the growing fire of rumours that surround their alleged interest in a merger with O2 by saying that “under the right circumstances” the United Kingdom could operate competitively with fewer operators. The final RootMetrics study of Mobile Broadband speeds in London, which conducted more than 86,000 tests across the city, has confirmed that EE remain the fastest operator for mobile Internet performance thanks to their comparatively advanced 4G (LTE at 1800MHz) network. By contrast O2, Three UK and Vodafone were well off the pace.

The latest preliminary RootMetrics study of Mobile Broadband performance in London (England), which conducted more than 11,000 tests across the city, has revealed that EE continues to deliver the best Internet speeds despite the recent launch of O2 and Vodafone’s new 4G (LTE) based networks.

Mobile operators O2 and Vodafone, which have a joint network sharing deal (here), will today switch-on their first superfast 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband networks using the new 800MHz frequency band in London (England). Both operators have a similar rollout plan and packages (albeit with different content offers).

An interesting new study from social media analyst WaveMetrix has taken a look at the United Kingdom’s biggest broadband ISPs to discover which gives the best support via Twitter. The study found that good support is about more than being the fastest to reply. Just ask Virgin Media, which wasn’t the fastest like Sky Broadband but still did well.

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has announced that its new 4G (LTE at 800MHz) based Mobile Broadband network will officially launch on 29th August in London (though their first 4G-ready plans will be available from 12th August) and it will aim to cover 12 further cities by the end of 2013.

Telecoms operator Vodafone UK has quietly slipped into our Top 10 UK ISPs By Subscriber Size table after last year’s £1.044bn deal to buy telecoms giant Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW) revealed that the group had 85,000 fixed line broadband customers (Q2-2013), which is down by -2k from 87,000 in Q1.

RootMetrics has published another new study into the 3G and 4G based Mobile Broadband performance from all four of the UK’s major Mobile Network Operators (MNO), covering the cities of Liverpool, Belfast and Sheffield. As before EE and Three UK came top of the pack for internet download speed.

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has warned that today’s move by Ofcom (here), which has created the “opportunity” for 10 new Freeview HD TV channels to be launched by using airwaves in the 600MHz radio spectrum band, could hinder the plan to free up existing 700MHz spectrum for use by future ultra-fast 5G based Mobile Broadband services.

The latest RootMetrics study of mobile network performance in Newcastle (North East England) has named EE and Three UK as the best two networks for Mobile Broadband speeds, with both also scoring well for text message and call performance. But once again Vodafone was the worst.

Mobile operator’s Three UK and EE have come top in the latest annual study of roaming Mobile Broadband performance. Overall Three UK delivered the highest peak internet download speed of 8.66Mbps (Megabits per second), while EE delivered the best average speed of 3.43Mbps. But once again it’s bad news for Vodafone.

Mobile operator Vodafone has warned investors in the United Kingdom that its planned June 2013 launch of superfast 4G (LTE) based mobile broadband services in the 800MHz and 2.6GHz band could now face several months of additional delay.

A new study from RootMetrics has named EE as the fastest mobile broadband operator in Manchester (England) after it blitzed past rivals, including distant runner-up Three UK, to record an average download speed of 15.2Mbps (Megabits per second) and uploads of 9.4Mbps.
