Grain to Start Expanding UK Full Fibre Broadband Network in Coalville

Carlisle-based broadband ISP Grain, which in July 2025 secured a £225 million funding boost to continue their UK network expansion (here), has announced that they’ve begun to expand their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) lines across the North West Leicestershire (England) town of Coalville; home to around 38,000 people.

Network analyst firm Streetwave has today published its results from the UK’s “largest mobile coverage survey“, which used bin lorries to test the 4G/5G (mobile broadband) network coverage and speed of each mobile operator across the River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region (RSPAWIR) – reflecting 33 councils in Wales and England’s West Midlands.

Broadband ISP Exascale, which is building a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to several thousand premises – mostly around Telford and Wrekin, has revealed that several core Dark Fibre cables – between Telford and Wolverhampton – were cut this week in what appears to have been a targeted attack by vandals.
