KCOM Scraps Rental Charges for Landline Phone Handsets

The incumbent phone and broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire, KCOM, has announced that they’re ending rental charges for landline phone handsets from 1st November 2019. Instead the ownership of such devices will be switched to the customer or, alternatively, it’s suggested that they could chuck it (recycling centre).

North Yorkshire UK Starts Build of £15.1m Full Fibre Network

The North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has announced that they’ve started the build phase of their £15.1 million project to deploy a new Gigabit capable “full fibre” network, which will be used to help connect some 370 public sector sites (e.g. council buildings, hospitals etc.) across the county over the next 18 months.

KCOM Formally Finish FTTP Broadband Rollout – Plan Expansion

After a delay KCOM has today formally announced the completion of their £85m “Lightstream” project, which covers 195,000+ premises around Hull and East Yorkshire in England with their “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network and a little FTTC (VDSL2). But the network could soon grow to cover new areas.

£100k of Vouchers Brings Full Fibre to the Shambles in York UK

KCOM Connect 100000 Customers to FTTP Broadband in Hull UK

The incumbent broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire, KCOM, has announced that 100,000 customers have now taken out a service on their new £85m “Lightstream” FTTP broadband network, which covers 195,000 premises; this represents an extremely strong take-up of just over 50%.

South Yorkshire UK Finish Phase 1 Superfast Broadband Rollout

The Superfast South Yorkshire project has today announced the official completion of their £27m Phase 1 rollout contract with Openreach (BT) and the BDUK programme, which helped to make “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) ISP networks available to 95,000 extra premises (over 97% coverage of the county).

ISP Virgin Media UK Finish FTTP Build to 4000 Premises in Ossett

Cable ISP Virgin Media has confirmed that they’ve just completed another network extension, which has built their 500Mbps+ capable “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband and TV network to cover 4,000 homes and businesses in the West Yorkshire town of Ossett (population 22,000). This follows the 600 added in Wallasey (Wirral) last week.

Macquarie Infrastructure (MIRA / MEIF 6 Fibre) has today confirmed that they’ve finalised their £627m acquisition of Hull and East Riding’s (East Yorkshire) incumbent broadband ISP KCOM. The new owner intends to expand the provider’s “full fibre” (FTTP) network, hopefully starting with the c.9,000 that have been missed.

The incumbent broadband ISP for Hull in East Yorkshire, KCOM, has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they will launch two new routers from mid-September 2019 – the Technicolor DGA2231 and ZyXEL XMG3927-B. Both look to be very capable devices and are aimed at users of their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

The group put in a huge final bid of £627m to see off competition from rival Humber Bidco.
