Broadband ISP TalkTalk has confirmed that a small number of jobs will be cut in the city of York, which is where they had been building a new Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network via the FibreNation brand until its recent sale (here) to the Goldman Sachs backed Cityfibre for around £200m cash.
The sale of FibreNation has now had an impact on staff who were previously working in the sales team for Ultra Fibre Optic (UFO), which is the original name given to TalkTalk’s full fibre roll-out in York before FibreNation was created.
Unfortunately 8 staff have been affected by the decision, although the ISP added that no job roles are being moved overseas as a result of this move and UFO sales will now be taken online or handled via their other UK based call centre. TalkTalk retains wholesale access to FibreNation’s network.
A TalkTalk Spokesperson said:
“We remain focused on extending our full fibre offering so that more homes and businesses across the UK can enjoy the benefits of faster more reliable connectivity. Widening the geographic reach of full fibre requires us to adjust our sales model and take a more digitalised approached. As a result a consultation process has started with all employees impacted by these proposals.”
End.
