Customers of mobile operators O2 and Vodafone in the West Yorkshire (England) village of Cullingworth have struggled to get a usable network service for over a month after one of Cornerstone’s (CTIL) local masts suffered a power cut. But a “safety related defect on the structure” appears to be delaying repairs.

Macquarie-backed telecoms operator and UK ISP KCOM, which is deploying a gigabit broadband (FTTP) network across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in England, has today become the latest internet provider to announce that they will “shortly” be adopting Amazon’s eero 6+ mesh Wi-Fi routers for their service.

The Horsham-based Telecom Acquisitions Group (TAL), which is a holding company for several familiar UK residential broadband brands (Home Telecom, Eclipse Broadband etc.), has today announced that they’ve signed a wholesale agreement to access and sell services over KCOM’s full fibre (FTTP) network.

Alternative network operator and ISP Brsk has today announced that their 2Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which already covers “over” 700,000 UK homes and is in the process of being merged with Netomnia (here), is being expanded to cover a further 10,000 “rural” premises in 5 new locations across West Yorkshire (England).

The CEO of alternative broadband operator MS3, Guy Miller, has confirmed to Richard Tang (CEO of ISP Zen Internet), in a new interview, that they’ve just begun a trial with KCOM in Hull that will allow them to deploy their full fibre (FTTP) lines by harnessing some of the incumbent’s existing poles and ducts – potentially reducing community complaints.

The UK Government (DSIT) has published an evaluation report into the c.£6.2 million “Fibre in Water” trial (Project TAWCO), which tested the deployment of fibre optic (FTTP) cables through a live water mains (used for drinking water) but, as we previously reported (here), ended up being stalled due to several issues.

Alternative network operator and ISP Quickline has today announced that the first 4,500 premises under their £60m state aid supported gigabit broadband roll-out contract for North and West Yorkshire, including the remote areas surrounding York, have been covered by the new network. The goal is to reach 28,000 premises in hard-to-reach rural areas.

The state-aid backed Superfast North Yorkshire (SFNY) project, which was supported by £100m of investment (£85m from public sources), has finally reached completion and helped more than 200,000 extra premises to access faster broadband speeds via a mix of different technologies (FTTC, FTTP, Fixed Wireless etc.) and operators (Openreach and Quickline).

Alternative network ISP Fastr Broadband (formerly UK Fibre Networks) has announced that they’ve adopted ADTRAN’s hardware and services to underpin their ongoing roll-out of a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in central York (England), which is aiming to cover around 8,000 homes and businesses in the city centre.

Global network operator Netmore has signed a contract with Yorkshire Water in England that aims to upgrade and connect 1.3 million water meters across the Yorkshire region (i.e. those that are reaching the end of their operation life) to their Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN).
