"Opera has been a largely overlooked browser, not least because it's a new commercial product in a market where the competition is free"

IE is likely to remain the dominant browser for some years to come, although the threat of a comeback from Netscape combined with slow loading problems could dent its success.

Cost: - FREE
OS Compatibility: - MS Windows / Mac OS / ??
Key Feature: - Easy to use.
Speed: - Faster than Netscape v6, yet slower than v7 and all other browsers shown here.
HTML Rendering Quality: - Easily the best, renders and outputs HTML just as you'd program it. No obvious alignment problems, although can be fussy with form line breaks and formatting - very annoying.

Opera v6

Opera has been a largely overlooked browser, not least because it's a new commercial product in a market where the competition is free. Thankfully things have improved dramatically since the release of v6.02, yet unfortunately its uptake is marred by the commercial design.

Thankfully v6.02 resolves many of the browsers previous niggles with HTML rendering, although it'll take more than faster loading pages, a clever 'windowed' interface and broad OS compatibility to beat the competition. Make it FREE! or remove the banners from the unregistered version =) etc.

Cost: - $39
OS Compatibility: - MS Windows / Mac OS / Linux / Solaris / OS2 / QNX / Symbian
Key Feature: - Handles Multiple Websites Very Well (own windowed environment).
Speed: - Fastest, loads websites faster than almost all other browsers (that we know of), excellent choice for modem users. Note that Mozilla is almost as fast now, almost.
HTML Rendering Quality: - Much better now, yet still has problems with font alignment and format, not to mention a few CSS interpretation issues. It's no IE, yet it's getting there and is only just behind Netscape/Mozilla.
