Telecoms operator EE has quietly increased the standard price of their Phone Line Rental service, which is usually bundled alongside their Home Broadband packages, from £16.40 to £17.50 per month.
In addition, customers who prefer to pre-pay for their line rental in advance will now have to pay the monthly equivalent of £15.75 (total over 12 months of £189), which is a sharp increase from the previous level of £13.75 (total over 12 months of £165).

At present the changes only affect new customers and those who may be seeking to upgrade their existing service contract, but history shows that such prices increases tend to filter down to everybody else eventually (usually sooner rather than later).
Ofcom’s guidelines for mid-contract price hikes should of course give existing subscribers, once they become subject to the change, the option to exit their contract penalty free (within 30 days of receiving the price notification letter). Today’s news means that all of the major ISPs have now announced their annual price hikes.
