Subscribers to KCOM’s broadband network in Hull (East Yorkshire, UK) suffered a major service outage last night between approximately 7:30pm and 10pm, which resulted in a “large number of customers being unable to connect to the internet.” Sadly some problems are on-going.
However the ISP appears to have been a bit slow on the uptake when recognising the fault, which meant that they only updated their Twitter and Service Status page this morning. The cause of the original outage remains unknown, although we note that some customers are continuing to experience problems today.
A Spokeswoman for KCOM told ISPreview.co.uk:
“Yesterday evening we became aware of an incident that led to a large number of customers being unable to connect to the internet. We were able to restore service to many customers but are aware that some are still experiencing problems this morning.
Our engineers are working to investigate and fix the remaining issue as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused to affected customers. We’ll continue to keep customers updated via social media and our network status line on 01482 602197.”
We have been promised another update once KCOM has identified the cause.
UPDATE 12:05pm
KCOM claims that all of the problems have now been resolved and they suggest that anybody who might still be unable to connect should try switching their router off and on again (the classic IT solution).
