Fibre GarDen Unveil FTTP Broadband Package Prices for Cumbria Villages

Thursday, Sep 25th, 2014 (11:29 am) - Score 884

The Digital Dales (Fibre GarDen) project has today revealed how much locals in the rural communities of Garsdale and Dentdale (Cumbria, England) will have pay in order to receive a service from the new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based superfast broadband network, which is due to start construction on Monday 5th October 2014.

Fibre GarDen, which recently secured £382,500 of crucial public funding from the Government’s £20m Rural Community Broadband Fund (here) and has also gained investment from other sources (total of around £650k), will give locals the choice of two products. The first will be a 100Mbps unlimited broadband package priced at £45 per month, while the second should deliver 30Mbps with up to 40GB of data usage for £25 per month.

Andrew Fleck, Chairman of Fibre GarDen, told ISPreview.co.uk:

Finally, the finer details are being confirmed and the initiative is coming to fruition. We are delighted that this project has reached the stage where we can inform the Digital Dales’ residents and business owners just what services will be on offer to them. These services will literally change the lives of residents and businesses in this area, who for so long have been overlooked by other network operators and therefore have become digitally excluded.”

The ITS Technology Group will help to build and manage the 64km long fibre optic network (here), which is now due to complete by November 2015 (previously this date was tentatively pegged for September 2015).

David Cullen, Director of ITS Technology Group, added:

Not only is ITS building an infrastructure that will support superfast broadband in a hard to reach area that other network providers have overlooked; but we will also enable ISPs to offer services at highly competitive price points that compete favourably with those offered in urban areas.

We are delighted with the communities of Dentdale and Garsdale’s investment, perseverance and support to put themselves on the ‘digital map’. All the plans are in place to start the build of the network and we are very encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by those residents who have already signed up.”

It’s hoped that the first customers will be able to benefit from these services as early as Christmas 2014.
