The community based Tove Valley Superfast Broadband project in Northamptonshire (England), which links together the local villages of Abthorpe, Weedon Lois, Wappenham, Slapton and Weston, has just connected its 100th home to their 100Mbps capable wireless broadband network.
Earlier this year the upper Tove Valley scheme secured approval for a new grant worth £117,914 from the RCBF, which would be used to upgrade their local wifi network with a new 100Mbps capable fibre optic link and extend the coverage to 450 local premises (here). Significant progress has now been made.
A Tove Valley Community Email said (here):
“Within just two months of launch we have now connected-up our 100 th home to superfast broadband. Our band of intrepid volunteers has been slaving away in the heat, climbing onto roofs and crawling about in lofts with the result that the project is now far more advanced than we had dared to hope. We have members who have registered and are on the waiting list – we are getting round as quickly as possible.”
Wireless access points within each village, which are positioned in places like St Loys School and on top of Wappenham Church Tower, provide the connectivity to individual properties.
