Cheshire-based ISP Vispa has finally completed the installation of a new fibre optic capacity link from BT, which has been in the planning stages since earlier this year (here) when capacity problems contributed to some performance woes on their City Wireless network and later caused new installations to be suspended.
The Internet provider was eventually able to relay its existing backhaul links (Manchester to Winwick & Chapelford) via a new high-rise site during July (here) and this has since helped them to re-open for new installations. But the new fibre optic capacity upgrade is still required to help secure future capacity and boost existing performance.

Now Vispa has reported that their City Wireless network, which serves homes and businesses in Chapelford, Winwick and Burtonwood with service speeds from 5Mbps to 100Mbps (Megabits per second), has completed the installation of its long awaiting fibre optic capacity upgrade.
City Wireless Status Update
With the installation of our BT fibre now completed, we are scheduling network maintenance for Friday 30th August 2013 from 11am to 2pm whilst the network is changed to route via the new fibre. We expect the changeover to take no longer than 10 minutes however the network will be at risk during these times due to on-site preparation work and testing.
Packages for the service start at £19.95 inc. VAT for their 10Mbps option with a 100GB usage allowance (unlimited off-peak usage) and the service usually costs £99 to install. The top-end 60Mbps solution for home users costs £39.95 and includes a 500GB allowance; though it would be nice if Vispa stopped listing this as ‘Gb’ for Gigabits instead of ‘GB’ for GigaBytes as it should be.
It’s understood that people and businesses in Chapelford will be the first to benefit today, while customers in Winwick and Burtonwood will follow suit next week.
