Fibre optic broadband ISP Seethelight, which serves thousands of customers across a number of housing estates via the Independent Fibre Networks Limited (IFNL) platform in the United Kingdom, is this morning recovering after a large outage struck their network after 2pm yesterday.
Apparently the problem began when one of the ISPs 3rd party backhaul providers suffered a fibre optic cable break in London, which ended up affecting Seethelight’s customers in Worcester, Andover, Dartford, Swindon, Pinhoe and Stanground.
Thankfully the affected equipment was eventually replaced and reconfigured, although this work wasn’t completed until close to midnight last night (i.e. the outage lasted around 8 hours). In a statement Seethelight said, “we apologise again for the inconvenience that has been caused by this outage“.
The ISP said they would continue to monitor the situation and will provide further updates should any change to their services occur. But so far the fix appears to be working. Thanks to one of our readers, Tom, for pointing this out.
