Fibre optic ISP TrueSpeed Communications has begun taking pre-orders from a number of new rural communities in North East Somerset (England), which could soon be able to benefit from their £47.50 per month 100Mbps+ Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband service.
The village of Priston, which is home to around 230 people (80+ homes and businesses) and resides just 4 miles south west of Bath, became the first official community to benefit from the new network in April 2016 (here) and now their demand-led network deployment plan (i.e. it goes where there is most interest) appears to have its sights set on several new areas.
The ISP quietly confirmed this week that they have started “selling” their service into Compton Dando, Woolard, Publow, Pensford, Stanton Drew, Stanton Wick, Chew Magna, Chew Stoke and Bishop Sutton. All of this appears to be in keeping with their existing deployment strategy for the future.
Work on the next batch of areas has already started and is expected to take 6 months or so to complete.
It’s worth pointing out that some of the areas can already order a Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC VDSL2) service over BTOpenreach’s network, although this doesn’t always deliver “superfast” speeds to related communities (Priston could only get around 6-10Mbps) and in any case TrueSpeed are a commercial operator (i.e. they don’t have to worry about justifying a public investment).
In addition, TrueSpeed are also members of the local voucher scheme, which means that related residents could benefit from a voucher worth up to £500 in order to help them get the service installed (details).
