The broadband woes expressed by residents of Rotherhithe in south east London are nothing new (example), but a new wireless provider called BWiFi has recently popped up in the area and is promising download speeds of up to 50-75Mbps (Megabits per second).
At this stage not much is known about the company, which was officially incorporated on 15th February 2016 and appears to be controlled by director Roy Evans (details). The website is also missing some information (e.g. blank FAQ page) and there only appears to be a difficult to spot ‘Pre Order Form‘ for those with an interest.

On the technical front BWiFi claims to have its “own internet backbone” and to be building a network based on fixed wireless GPS Sync TDMA technology, which they say adapts some of the features of the WiFi Standard (802.11AC Wave AP). Apparently this will allow their network, when it goes live, to “scale very quickly from 1.7Gbps per site to 20Gbps, making us the fastest ever wireless network in the UK” (shared capacity).
At present their Coverage Map doesn’t seem to work, but we’ll keep an eye on them for any developments and several Twitter posts indicate that a launch could occur by the end of July 2016. The ISP plans to offer three packages, two for residential users and one for business connections.
