Alternative network ISP Wessex Internet, which has built a mix of fixed wireless and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband infrastructure across rural parts of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, has doubled its staff over the past year to reach a total 81 people.
At present the operator’s broadband network consists of more than 150 wireless masts and over 2,000km (1,243 miles) of fibre optic cable. The provider is also riding high after securing an important £4.7m contract from the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) programme (here), which will extend their “full fibre” network to include another 3,600+ premises in South Somerset.
The MD of Wessex Internet, Hector Gibson Fleming, said (Bournemouth Echo): “Our focus is to expand our fantastic service to even more of the countryside. We want to significantly grow our customer base and continually improve our service experience for existing customers. We have everything in place to achieve this – robust systems, a strong management structure and the specialist skills that contributed to a successful 12 months. We will continue to recruit more people over the coming year.”
