Business and residential ISP Glide Group, which is currently extending their full fibre broadband network across more of the UK (leased lines and FTTP etc.), has today announced that they’ll upgrade their existing “fibre infrastructure” in Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham to support symmetric 10Gbps speeds with low latency.
By the sounds of it, this upgrade seems mostly intended to support their business connectivity base, which consists of around 5,000 businesses across the UK, most of which are connected via a full fibre service via business parks that have traditionally been underserved by larger ISPs.
Sadly, the announcement itself doesn’t spell out precisely what is being upgraded in order to deliver the new speeds or how long the process will take to complete. But we have asked and hope to report back with a bit more detail later. However, the operator’s recent acquisition of Concept Solutions People is said to have helped to “accelerate its fibre build in strategic locations.”

Tim Pilcher, CEO of Glide Group, said:
“Glide’s business started out in Coventry and our rollout of 10 Gbit/s capable infrastructure will provide local businesses with award-winning fibre that offers fast and reliable connectivity. SME businesses took a hit from the pandemic and with the growing need for robust cloud-based business applications, it is our priority to equip the Midland’s business community with the best fibre connectivity possible.”
End.
Network Team: “We’re planning to buy some equipment with 10GE ports”.
Marketing: “Better get a press release out then!”
