UK ISP FACTCO has today finished its rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to the rural village of Cambois, which they claim is the “largest completed [gigabit voucher] project to date” in Northumberland (England).
Back in September 2020 we reported that FACTCO had entered into a new partnership with the council-run iNorthumberland project (here), which with the aid of the Government’s gigabit voucher scheme would aim to cover some 400 properties in the coastal village of Cambois with full fibre connectivity. At the time the provider said they hoped to complete the build by “early” 2021, but clearly it took a bit.. longer.
More than 100 residents who had previously registered with the government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS) in Cambois have now been connected to ultrafast fibre-optic broadband thanks to FACTCO. The vouchers provided a grant of up to £1,500 for residents, and up to £3,500 for businesses, towards the cost of installing FTTP.
FACTCO Managing Director, Lee Murphy, said:
“We noticed improved connectivity needed a team of specialists to help bridge the digital gap between rural and urban areas. So, we evolved and we’re now working hard to support businesses and homes across the UK by connecting them to full fibre broadband. With our support, communities and businesses will now be able to enjoy what greater connectivity can do for them and their daily lives.”
Customers can expect to pay from £24.99 per month for a 100Mbps service on a 12-month term, which includes a free router and installation. By comparison, the top 1000Mbps package is just £44.99 per month.
Did Factco use underground cables or erect telegraph poles(the least expensive and an eyesore) in order to complete the work?.Did there installer give the required notice to householders before commencing the work?.
Bit of a negative response to a small settlement getting modern comms installed ?
Looks like their Mains power is supplied by poles/overhead plus lots of telegraph poles too So i doubt they’re having a hissy fit.
My power and the phone line come past us on Overhead, we have a lovely big transformer on the pole too for added rurality, Not sure its an eyesore, It’s just there.
If Openreach and the power guys came round and said they were going to replace it with underground I’d happily just say sure go for it, but as they wont I really couldnt care less.
