Network operator Broadway Partners (Broadway Broadband) has chosen Nokia to be the primary technology partner for their planned rollout of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in rural parts of Scotland and Wales, which aims to cover 250,000 premises by around 2028 (within 5 years).
Broadway has already conducted various smaller deployments to rural communities across different parts of Wales and Scotland (e.g. Isle of Arran, Pembrokeshire, Monmouthshire and Powys). But they intended to go much further, which is in no small part thanks to a significant investment of £145m from Downing LLP (here), a London-based sustainable investment manager.
The latest development confirms that they’ve also adopted Nokia’s fibre access nodes for their exchanges (the exact product series wasn’t stated), while the same company’s WiFi6 Beacons (consumer broadband routers) will be deployed inside homes.

Steve Haines, CEO at Broadway Partners, said:
“Connecting rural communities is the lifeblood of Broadway, and we need partners that understand our mission and dedication to delivering that to our customers across Wales and Scotland.”
Working with Nokia has been an essential part of our delivering connections to areas including the Isle of Arran and Powys, Pembrokeshire and Monmouthshire in Wales. We are excited to continue collaborating in 2023, and to helping deliver more connections and fibre broadband using its technology within our fibre infrastructure.”
Now we just need to see a solid rollout plan for all this.
UPDATE 5:11pm
We’ve been informed that Broadway will be deploying Nokia’s 10G-PON kit and are looking to pilot 25G-PON.
