Bath-based broadband ISP Truespeed, which is building a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across rural parts of South West England, has appointed a former BT Director – Robert Purdy – to be their new Chief Information Officer (CIO) and support the rapid scale-up of their build.
The operator, which already covers 60,000 premises (inc. 13,000 customers) and aims to double this by the end of 2023, currently holds an “ambitious” target to reach 500,000 properties by the end of 2026 – mostly across Devon and Somerset. This is being supported by a significant investment of £175 million from Aviva.
As for the operator’s new CIO, Robert has 38 years of experience in the technology and telecommunications sectors, and he joins Truespeed from BT, where he was Director of Consumer IT. Prior to that, he also worked internationally for 20 years, leading IT and digital teams for major telecom brands, including Orange, O2 and EE.

Robert will thus spearhead the transformation of internal systems at Truespeed and work to further enhance its customer offerings.
James Lowther, Truespeed CEO, said:
“Robert’s strategic mindset and vast technological experience will be instrumental to Truespeed as we continue scaling up across the business. A welcome addition to the team, Robert will further strengthen our already high-calibre leadership team and I look forward to working closely with him as we expand our network and continue building a better kind of broadband business.”
End.

Let’s hope he doesn’t bring the BT operating model with him then 🙂
