UPD Survey Claims Most UK Consumers Will Pay Extra for Superfast Broadband

The results from 830 respondents (polled during February 2012) to our latest monthly reader survey has revealed that almost three quarters (71%) of respondents would be willing to pay more to upgrade their current service with a reliable superfast broadband (25Mbps+) connection, yet over half (55%) still point to a lack of availability as being the main barrier to their adoption.

Scientists working at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics and the University of Padova have experimentally demonstrated, in a real-world setting, that it is possible to simultaneously transmit multiple independent radio channels, on the same frequency, via the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. Crucially the potential now exists to “dramatically increase the capacity of any frequency band,” which would have massive implications for other wireless solutions.

Ofcom UK Reveals Action Plan to Tackle Mobile Data and Voice BILL SHOCKS

The communications regulator, Ofcom UK, has threatened to impose stiff new rules on the industry unless Mobile Network Operators (MNO) act to “sufficiently reduce consumer harm” from Bill Shocks, which can occur when a customer exceeds their Mobile Broadband data and or voice allowances.

UK Broadband First to Launch Commercial 4G Mobile Internet Service via 3.5GHz

UK Broadband (UKB), a sibling of Hong Kong based telecoms firm PCCW, has today switched on the world’s first deployment of TD-LTE (Huawei’s Time Division – Long Term Evolution) Mobile Broadband technology using the 3.5GHz spectrum band in London. UKB claims that this also represents the “first commercial deployment” of a 4G service in the UK.
