Network access provider Openreach (BT) has revealed that they will finally withdraw their old Fibre Voice Access (FVA) product from 1st December 2024. The service has long since been superseded by retail broadband ISPs launching their own IP / VoIP based digital phone services.

Business broadband ISP, cloud and technology provider Daisy Communications has managed to irritate some of their UK customers after the provider automatically added a new internet security feature – ‘SafeWeb Plus’ – to their accounts, at a cost of £11.99 ex. VAT per month, without first getting consent.

Welsh broadband ISP Ogi, which is building a multi-gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to premises across South Wales, has added around 30 additional businesses to their coverage thanks to a new deal with the Caerphilly County Borough Council. This has enabled them to expand across the Tredomen Business and Technology Park.

In a small but notable development, network operator Openreach (BT) has finally announced that it will withdraw the supply of their hybrid fibre G.fast “ultrafast broadband” modems (CPE) from 1st December 2024 (i.e. existing customers who experience a fault with one of these modems will now need to look elsewhere).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has made progress on their deal with social housing provider Wolverhampton Homes in the West Midlands (England), which will enable them to extend their 1.8Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network to cover thousands of flats and apartments across the city.

Rural network operator and UK ISP Fusion Fibre Group (formerly FACTCO) has today announced that their existing deployment of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Stocksfield and Mickley is being extended to include 70 “hard-to-reach” properties in the Northumberland village of Hedley on the Hill.

Edinburgh-based UK alternative network ISP GoFibre (BorderLink) has revealed that their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network now covers 115,000 rural premises (RFS) across the North of England and Scotland, which is up from 105,600 premises on 17th June 2024. One of the latest locations to benefit from this is the Angus town of Forfar.

Network operator nexfibre, which shares some of their parentage with UK broadband ISP partner Virgin Media (O2), have announced that they’ve added 11,000 more homes in the large West Yorkshire (England) town of Huddersfield to the coverage of their new 2Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband network.

Sky UK (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) has warned customers of their services to be aware of “scam” websites that operate by “manipulating Google results or using deceptive ads” to target people looking for Sky’s support. Such sites are designed to “mislead customers” into calling premium rate numbers instead of the correct ones.

Network analyst firm Streetwave is working with the River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region (RSPAWIR) to conduct what they’re called the “largest mobile coverage survey ever conducted in the UK“. This uses bin lorries to survey the coverage and speed of 4G and 5G mobile (broadband) networks across 33 West Midlands (England) and Wales councils.

The latest progress update on the Scottish Government’s state aid supported £600m Reaching 100% (R100) project with Openreach (BT), which is predominantly rolling out full fibre (FTTP) broadband, has revealed that a total of 62,000 premises in some of the hardest to reach parts of the country have now been reached (up from 57,000 last month).

A new alternative network operator called Solas Fibre has revealed that they’re planning to deploy a 1Gbps capable full fibre broadband ISP network across mostly rural parts of Wales, the North-West and North-East of England, and Scotland. But the details are currently quite limited.
