Budget broadband ISP TalkTalk has today announced that they’ve added over 90 “new” HD (High Definition) TV channels for “free” to their Netgem powered pay TV (IPTV) platform and its related “TV 4K Box” device, which means that customers should be able to access a total of up to 210 channels.

City-focused UK gigabit broadband ISP Hyperoptic has today announced the signing of a new contract with Islington Council in London, which they say will help to extend the coverage of their “full fibre” (FTTP/B) network to “more than 90% of Islington homes and businesses” by August 2025.

Ofcom has revealed that 29% of UK households (8 million) – double last year’s 15% – are still having problems paying their phone, broadband and TV bills. In response, they’ve called on major ISPs to reconsider annual price hikes and ordered TalkTalk, Shell Energy, EE, Plusnet and Vodafone to introduce “social tariffs as soon as possible“.

The second Local Supplier contract under the UK Government’s new £5bn Project Gigabit broadband scheme – worth £6.6m – has today been awarded to rural ISP GoFibre (BorderLink), which will upgrade broadband for more than 4,000 hard-to-reach Teesdale premises in Northern England.

Broadband ISP and mobile operator Virgin Media (VMO2) has signed an extended contract with civil engineering firm Avonline Networks (M Group Services), which will see the firm’s engineers continue their relationship with Virgin by helping to extend their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) infrastructure to 23 million UK premises by 2028.

Opensignal has published their biannual September 2022 Mobile Network Experience Report, which measures the 4G and 5G (mobile broadband) services of all four primary network operators – EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three UK – to determine which delivers the best performance. Both EE and Three UK picked up most of the wins.

Network operator Cityfibre has announced that they’ve started to deploy their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network across the Cambridgeshire (England) market town and civil parish of Whittlesey, which is expected to cost the operator around £3m to complete.

At the start of this year we reported (here) that Axione UK – a subsidiary of French provider Axione – had started a £300m project to build a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to 4 million premises for ISPs to sell on to homes (open-access). We now have a fuller list of their rollout areas, in Scotland.

Rural broadband ISP Gigaclear, which has so far deployed their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover 300,000 premises across England, is on-track to cover 2,500 homes in the Gloucestershire town of Lydney after it deployed specialist engineering to drill under a historic railway line. But it may go further than that.

Broadband ISP and mobile operator EE has today announced that they’ve teamed up with the Money Adviser Network to offer customers free, independent debt advice through referrals from customer service advisors. Nearly 3,000 customers are said to have so far benefitted from the service since its rollout in June 2022.
