Network testing and benchmarking firm MedUX has today published new research, which examines the performance and quality of 5G (mobile broadband) networks – including EE (BT), O2 (VMO2), Vodafone and Three UK – across London. The results indicate that EE is leading the pack in most areas, at least in the UK’s capital.

Mobile network analysts at Streetwave have published the results of a new real-world benchmark into mobile network performance across the city of Edinburgh in Scotland, which concluded that Three UK delivered the “fastest network” (mobile broadband) across most homes. But Vodafone had the fastest average upload speeds.

The Office for National Statistics has published their latest UK inflation figures, which saw the Consumer Price Index fall to 4% (down from 10.5% this time last year) and the Retail Price Index reach 5.2% (down from 13.4%). As a result, we now know how big the annual inflation-linked price hikes will be from most of the major UK ISPs.

Contract-free mobile operator VOXI, which is a virtual network operator (MVNO) sibling of Vodafone UK, has begun to offer some of their existing customers 12-months of free access to Moneyhub’s financial wellness app (usually £14.99 annually) as part of their customer rewards programme (‘Drop’).

Broadband ISP Virgin Media UK (VMO2) and nexfibre have today announced that more than 12,000 extra homes and businesses – across both the large coastal village of Heysham and the small city of Lancaster in Lancashire (England) – can now access their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has announced that their £50m project to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the northern city of Newcastle (Tyne and Wear), which first began at the end of 2019 (here), has now covered 50,000 premises in the city and rising.

A new OnePoll UK survey of 2,560 adults based in London, which was commissioned by London-focused broadband ISP and network builder G.Network, has claimed that 17% of people in the capital lose more than a day each year waiting for slow and unreliable internet connections.

Broadband ISP and mobile operator EE (BT) has today announced that they’ve completed – six months ahead of schedule – the first phase of their roll-out under the £1bn industry-led Shared Rural Network (SRN) project, which aims to extend geographic 4G (mobile broadband) coverage (aggregate) to 95% of the UK by the end of 2025.

Low-cost focused UK broadband ISP Plusnet (BT Group) has apologised to customers after their internet service was hit by a “mass outage” that struck yesterday afternoon and lasted for several hours. The issue appears to have been related to a problem with their Domain Name System (DNS).

The Government has today confirmed that 80% of the United Kingdom now has access to a gigabit-capable broadband ISP network, which marks good progress on their way to achieving at least 85% coverage by 2025, and then “nationwide” (c.99%) coverage by 2030. But most of the progress so far has been fuelled by commercial builds.
