BT Group has today published their triennial Pension Scheme (BTPS) valuation – one of the UK’s largest private sector pension schemes with c.270,000 members and £47bn of assets under management, which shows progress on their recovery plan and the funding deficit falling from £7.98bn in 2020 to £3.7bn now.

Mobile operator and UK ISP Vodafone has today released their Q2 FY24 financial results, which saw their fixed line broadband base grow more slowly to total 1.292 million customers (up by 27k in the Q2 vs 42k in Q1 FY24), while their mobile base increased to 18.242 million (up by 218k vs 104k in the previous quarter).

Gigabit broadband ISP and network builder Wessex Internet has secured £35 million of addition funding, including a Senior Debt Facility from Triodos Bank UK, which will be used to help fuel their deployment of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service across rural parts of Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Somerset in England.

Mobile network operator O2 (VMO2) has put out a product recall notice for their own-brand 45W or 20W charger plugs, which follows some additional safety testing that took place after the operator said they “received a very small number of reports on a few faulty O2-branded plugs“.

A new update from Point Topic has revealed how the top and bottom ten UK local authorities have changed over the past quarter, at least with respect to their coverage of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband networks. In addition, 103 local authorities now have three overlapping full fibre networks (up from 96 in Q2).

A new survey of 2,008 UK broadband customers, which was conducted between 18th to 20th October 2023 by Broadband Genie, has found that 63% feel internet providers use “confusing language” and 54% believe they “hide behind baffling jargon to squeeze more money out of customers“.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today set out the design of their planned auction for a large chunk of millimetre wave (mmW) radio spectrum frequency across the 26GHz and 40GHz bands, which is to be used by mobile network operators to deliver even faster 5G (mobile broadband) services – mostly across urban areas.

Broadband ISP G.Network, which is building a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to homes and businesses in parts of London, has just signed a new deal with Maxus dealership HTC Van Centre. The move sees the operator adding 100 electric vans from Harris Maxus to their fleet.
