The latest to join the rapidly growing club is called Simp Mobile, which has spent the last few months in testing with a limited base of users and is now launching publicly. The operator proclaims itself as being “aimed squarely at a younger audience“.

A partnership between EE (BT), the Denbighshire County Council, the Clocaenog Community Council and the Welsh Government has enabled the operator to extend their mobile (mobile broadband) network signal to reach across the remote rural North Wales village of Clocaenog. The community is said to have “been without reliable mobile phone coverage for decades“.

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has announced that, in order to support England’s place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 football finals, they’ve extended their inclusive roaming benefit for eligible pay monthly customers travelling to the USA to include pay monthly Classic Plan customers. The Ministry of Housing (MHCLG) and UK ISP Association (ISPA) have today unveiled crucial changes to address the current problem with the Building Safety Regulator’s (BSR) approval processes in England, which are known to have caused big delays and increased costs for broadband and mobile operators trying to deploy full fibre networks into large buildings (MDUs etc.).

The UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has today revealed that 50 publicly funded rural 4G (mobile broadband) mast upgrades have now gone live in Scotland as part of the industry-led £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) project – providing coverage from EE, O2 and VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK) across more than 1,900 sq km.

A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults (weighted to be nationally representative), which was commissioned by Uswitch.com, has claimed that more than 5 million people (9.8%) have seen their phone connect to an overseas network while they were still in the UK, triggering a roaming charge or alert. But 76% of respondents still think this is “impossible” or have never heard of it.

Ookla (Accenture), which operates the popular broadband Speedtest.net benchmarking service, has today published a new report that evaluates metrics like 5G upload capacity, latency under load, and cloud infrastructure pathways across 22 countries in order to identify how well they’ll handle AI workloads.

We’ve today published our biannual summary of fixed broadband coverage for the first half (H1) of 2026, which reveals that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have grown to reach 85.05% of UK premises (up from 81.89% in H2 2025) and 91% are within reach of “gigabit” 1000Mbps+ speeds (up from 89.6%). Contract-free UK mobile network operator VOXI, a brand of Vodafone (VodafoneThree), has today expanded their cheaper £10 VOXI For Now “social tariff”. Previously only available online via their website, the tariff will now also be offered as a physical SIM through local councils and housing teams, support charities, and prison resettlement programmes.

Low-cost mobile provider iD Mobile (Currys), which piggybacks off VodafoneThree’s (Three UK) national 4G and 5G network via a virtual operator (mvno) partnership, has reported seeing subscribers grow by +18% over the last year to total 2.6 million (up from 2.3m in January 2026) – putting them ahead of their 2.5m target for the year.

Mobile network operator giffgaff, which is owned by Telefónica and harnesses O2’s national UK virtual operator (mvno) platform, has published their 2025 Impact Report and revealed that eSIM adoption grew by 71% last year – helping more people get connected without the extra plastic – and they’re now home to a total of 4.26 million members (up from 4.11m in 2024).

Network analyst firm Streetwave has published the partial results from a new study that compared the real-world mobile network (4G, 5G) and mobile broadband performance from EE, O2, Vodafone and Three UK across the District Line, which runs from Whitechapel to Wimbledon.
