The CEO of the community funded and built B4RN network (Barry Forde), which is currently rolling out an ultrafast Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTH) network to homes across remote parts of rural Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria in England, has today been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours (2015).

Residents of Dolphinholme village in Lancashire report that BT’s engineers have returned to resume their state aid fuelled deployment of 330Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband technology in the area, which is despite B4RN’s community funded 1000Mbps FTTP service being deployed to homes on one of the exact same streets.

The incumbent ISP for Hull and its surrounding areas in East Yorkshire, KC (KCOM), has announced that they’re “laying claim” to the title of “village with the fastest broadband speeds in Britain” after pegging Brantingham for the achievement thanks to its average download speed of 78Mbps.
