The Reading Borough Council has proposed a new agreement with UK ISP Hyperoptic that could result in them installing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) initially to the authority’s own high-rise housing stock (subject to survey), but with the potential for further expansion to cover up to 75% of the geographic area of the Borough.

A new trial has enabled cable operator Virgin Media UK to deploy a 1Gbps (150Mbps upload) capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / RFoG) broadband network into the Berkshire village of Greenham near Newbury, which was made possible by feeding the network via a 10Gbps high-capacity millimetre wave (mmW) radio link.

It’s two years since full fibre UK ISP Gigaclear announced that they could deploy their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to the rural village of Crazies Hill in Berkshire (here), which beat Openreach (BT) and Virgin Media to the punch. Sadly the local residents are still waiting.

Rural fibre optic ISP Gigaclear and national operator Openreach (BT) have won the Phase 3 roll-out contracts for Berkshire in England, which will see a mix of 1Gbps FTTP and up to 80Mbps FTTC broadband being used to reach an additional 13,500 homes and businesses by the end of 2019.

24th July, 2017 (11 Comments)
