Openreach (BT) has announced that the option of faster service repairs (Service Maintenance Level 3 and 4), albeit at extra cost, will be added to their ultrafast-capable hybrid fibre G.fast and standalone SOGEA (SOGfast) broadband lines for UK ISPs from 21st October 2020.

Residents in the tiny rural village of Aberhosan (Powys, Wales) have finally seen an end to 18-months of unusually slow and unstable broadband ISP connectivity after engineers, working for Openreach (BT), traced the source of the disruption to an old television set, which had been leaking electrical interference (SHINE).

Openreach (BT) has today hailed the efforts of 750 engineers who have helped them to extend their commercial rollout of 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP technology, which now covers over 50% of Northern Ireland (420,000 premises); considerably more than Scotland, Wales or England.

Openreach (BT) have today added 67 new locations into their UK “Fibre Cities” roll-out programme for 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP technology, which forms part of their £12bn project to cover 20 million premises by around the mid to late 2020s (2025 – 2030).

A joint £2.1m project between Openreach (BT), Buckinghamshire County Council and the Buckinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) looks set to result in a further 270 businesses and 485 homes in the county’s most rural communities gaining access to a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

Civil engineering firm Morrison Telecom Services (MTS), part of the M Group Services, and Telent both appear to have secured another contract (or extension) with Openreach (BT), which will see them support the operator’s expanded £12bn UK deployment of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP technology.

Multiple credible sources have informed ISPreview.co.uk that the Northern Ireland Executive are set to announced that alternative network ISP Fibrus has beaten BT (Openreach) to be chosen as the main supplier for their £165m Project Stratum programme, which will extend “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) coverage.

The Scottish Government (SG) has informed ISPreview.co.uk that they expect to sign a contract with BT (Openreach) for the delivery of their much delayed LOT 1 area, which forms part of the £579m R100 (Reaching 100%) superfast broadband roll-out programme, “before the end of the calendar year.”

A new project commissioned by the Digital Innovation Zone (DIZ) looks set to result in 83 GP surgeries across West Essex and East Hertfordshire in England being upgraded to support broadband or fibre optic Ethernet connections with speeds of up to 1Gbps (Gigabit per second).

Energy provider and UK ISP Shell Energy has become the latest provider to introduce a new range of “ultrafast fibre” broadband packages, although instead of going with FTTP they seem to initially be launching using only Openreach’s hybrid fibre G.fast network that is no longer being deployed at scale.

We’ve just been informed that UK ISP Gigaclear has today reached a settlement in their R100 (Reaching 100%) legal dispute with the Scottish Government. The case had been preventing the LOT 1 part of the deployment contract from being award to BT and thus delaying the roll-out of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+).

Hampshire-based UK ISP Giganet has today launched two new phone services for their home broadband customers (i.e. Home Phone and Virtual Landline), which allows customers to keep their existing number and handset, albeit without the need for expensive BT phone lines.

Vodafone UK has today revealed a new range of “gigafast broadband” packages that will only be available via Openreach’s new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool (360,000 premises). In other locations you’ll connect via Cityfibre’s “full fibre” platform.
