The UK Government’s Minister for Telecoms, Sir Chris Bryant, yesterday held a round table meeting with a small selection of network operators in an effort to try and drive home the need for greater “infrastructure sharing” in order to “end the deployment of unnecessary telegraph poles” when rolling out new gigabit-capable broadband ISP networks.

Mobile operator and UK ISP Vodafone has today celebrated the launch of faster One Touch Switching (OTS) between home broadband providers by reminding new customers that they will offer up to £100 towards exit fees with your old ISP, which should make it easier for those still stuck in longer contracts to migrate.

After over 17 months of delays, Ofcom’s new One Touch Switching (OTS) process for fixed line phone and broadband ISPs, which makes it quicker and easier for consumers to switch between providers on physically separate networks (e.g. Openreach to CityFibre or Virgin Media etc.), is today finally going LIVE. But don’t be surprised if your switch doesn’t use it, yet.

Oxfordshire-based alternative full fibre operator Zzoomm, which has deployed their 2Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 202,000 premises (RFS) in England, have reportedly accelerated their plans for an M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) drive with the appointment of Acuity Advisors to help identify prospective deals.

Leeds-based internet provider Unchained ISP appears to have recently complemented their existing range of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) packages on Openreach’s national network by launching a similar range via alternative network operator CityFibre, albeit with a few notable benefits.

A small number of customers trying to order a broadband package via ISPs on CityFibre’s new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network are finding, in certain locations, that the wholesale operator has been rejecting orders where their network is “at capacity“. This is despite continuing to list the same addresses as being available on their website.

In a big development, Sky UK (Comcast) has this morning announced that they’ve finally reached a “long-term partnership” (wholesale) agreement with alternative network operator CityFibre, which will enable ISP Sky Broadband to finally launch a new range of multi-gigabit speed capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband packages “from next year“.

The Horsham-based Telecom Acquisitions Group (TAL), which is a holding company for several familiar UK residential broadband brands (Home Telecom, Eclipse Broadband etc.), has today announced that they’ve acquired the remaining residential customers of ISP Gigabit Networks that were on CityFibre and FullFibre Ltd. networks.

Shropshire-based UK ISP Aquiss has today announced that they’ve expanded their range of CityFibre based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) packages by introducing symmetric speeds of up to 2.5Gbps for business customers (they already had some of these for residential subscribers).

Eastbourne-based alternative network operator and ISP Lightning Fibre, which has deployed a gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across parts of Sussex and Kent in England, have today signed a wholesale agreement that will enable them to sell packages via Cityfibre’s network too. But initial coverage will be limited.

Good news. Customers taking a residential or business broadband package from an ISP on CityFibre’s growing national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network will now also be able to benefit from Saturday appointments for service repairs too, which will be handled just like the usual Monday to Friday (workday) slots.

Network operator CityFibre, which has so far extended their 2.5Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 3.6 million UK premises (3.3m RFS), has revealed that their £26m deployment in the coastal East Sussex town of Eastbourne has now reached 30,000 premises. But a firm completion date remains unclear.

Mobile network operator and UK ISP Vodafone has today published their Q1 FY25 financial results, which reveals that their fixed broadband base grew again to total 1.427 million customers (up by 44k in Q1 vs 52k in the Q4 FY24) and their mobile base fell a bit to total 18.567 million (down by -71k in Q1 vs +66k in Q4 FY24).

Network operator CityFibre, which has already expanded their full fibre broadband ISP network to cover 3.6 million UK premises, claims to have made the testing of new products, network technology changes and software upgrades “up to” 100x faster – while also increasing test capacity by 300% – through the adoption of a fully automated test environment.

Network operator CityFibre, which has so far extended their gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 3.6 million UK premises (3.3m RFS), have today confirmed the completion of their “primary” £14m build in the large market and commuter town of Wellingborough, North Northamptonshire (England).

CityFibre have today announced that the first customer has just gone live on their new full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Cambridgeshire (England) under the £69m state aid supported Project Gigabit rollout contract (Lot 5), which began its construction phase back in February 2024 (contract was awarded in March 2023).
