Hampshire-based alternative network toob, which has deployed their own full fibre gigabit broadband network in the South of England and also harnesses CityFibre’s network in other UK areas, has today praised their staff for taking part in last night’s episode of the BBC’s DIY SOS TV show. The provider donated their full-fibre to a family in need and assisted in a renovation.
Toob’s staff joined forces with the DIY SOS team to help transform a family home in Bitterne, Southampton. As part of the project, toob donated its 900Mbps broadband service and provided volunteers to support the life-changing project, which saw Ahmed and Rifat Ali’s family home renovated with future-proof accessibility.
The project came at a particularly important time for the family. Before the DIY SOS transformation began, Ahmed and Rifat, who are both profoundly deaf, had been left in a difficult position following work carried out by a rogue builder, leaving their 3-bed home unfinished and the family facing significant uncertainty about what would happen next as they had spent their life savings on the renovation.

The DIY SOS team, supported by a network of local businesses, tradespeople and volunteers, took on the challenge of transforming the property into a safe and accessible home, designed around the family’s needs. Users of the BBC’s iPlayer service can watch Series 35: Episode 3 online now.
Nick Parbutt, toob CEO and founder, said:
“We were incredibly proud to be involved in the DIY SOS project for the Ali family. This was much more than a renovation – it was about giving a family the home they deserved after a difficult time.
Seeing everyone come together to support the family was incredibly special, and our toob volunteers were delighted to play their part in the build.
We were equally pleased to donate our full-fibre service to support a home thoughtfully designed around the family’s needs. Knowing our connectivity is supporting the smart technology within the home makes our involvement even more meaningful. It’s been a privilege for toob to play a part in such a special project.”
We should point out that this is not the first time telecoms staff and engineers have helped out on the TV show, with KCOM doing the same at the very start of this year.

Britain is at its best when we help our fellow humans; regardless of colour or religion. I’m sick of so much hate in Britain. Seeing what a marvellous job they did for this lovely family was great.
