The Director of Strategy and Policy at urban fibre optic developer CityFibre, Mark Collins, has today revealed more to ISPreview.co.uk about their Joint Venture plans with Sky Broadband and TalkTalk to roll-out an “ultra-fast” 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP/H) broadband network for UK homes in three cities, starting with York.

Fibre optic infrastructure developer CityFibre have signed a strategic partnership with Coventry City Council in England, which has enabled the firm to acquire Coventry’s 140km metro fibre network (Coventry CORE). The network will now be upgraded and extended in order to make broadband speeds of 1000Mbps available to local businesses.

As expected CityFibre, in partnership with Peterborough City Council in the east of England and IT services provider Serco, has officially begun the installation of an almost 90km long new fibre optic cable network (aka – Peterborough CORE) in the city centre.

In a major development two of the United Kingdom’s largest ISPs, TalkTalk and Sky Broadband (BSkyB), have “joined forces” with fibre optic infrastructure developer CityFibre to expand its existing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the City of York (England) by launching a 1000Mbps capable “ultra-fast” broadband service to thousands of local homes.
