Fibre optic infrastructure developer CityFibre, which recently announced plans to build a new fibre optic Public Sector Network in the city of Newport (here), has criticised business broadband connectivity in Wales as being “not fit for purpose” because, they claim, the “copper networks that were laid generations ago” are still holding the country back.

CityFibre are in the news for a second time today because they’ve just teamed up with Logicalis, a global IT solutions provider, to build a new high-capacity pure fibre optic ring network in Wales’s third biggest city of Newport, which is curiously called a “Community Safety Network“.

Fibre optic infrastructure builder CityFibre has told today’s Transform Digital Conference that their plan to create Scotland’s first “Gigabit City“, by rolling out a new 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) style network around the city of Aberdeen, is progressing and the network build should finally begin next month (March 2015).

Fibre optic ISP Gigaclear has begun construction of a new 1000Mbps (Megabits per second) capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) based broadband network for approximately 1,500 premises in the rural Peterborough (England) villages of Ashton, Bainton, Barnack, Helpston, Pilsgate, Southorpe, Tallington and Ufford.

The Joint Venture (JV) between CityFibre, TalkTalk and Sky Broadband, which aims to roll-out a 1000Mbps capable fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network to homes across the city of York and two further cities in the near future, has established a new company to help manage and oversee the project – Bolt Pro Tem Limited (company no. 08975479).

CityFibre has today signed a major long-term fibre optic infrastructure deal with two national UK mobile network operators, EE and Three UK, which will involve the deployment of Dark Fibre backhaul connections to help cost efficiencies and boost capacity to mobile masts across the respective networks.

The NextGen Conference in Derby has today revealed the winners of their annual 2014 Digital Challenge Awards, which are designed to showcase projects from across the United Kingdom that deliver the “best in next generation digital access infrastructure innovation“. This year saw JT (Jersey Telecom) and the ITS Technology Group both scoop gongs for their broadband deployments.

CityFibre has announced that their joint 80km pure metro fibre optic Public Service Network (PSN) in Kirklees (West Yorkshire, England), which was recently upgraded as part of a collaboration with Easynet (here), will soon be expanded upon to cater for local businesses as part of a new development.

CityFibre have unsurprisingly announced that Fujitsu has been chosen as the build partner for the first deployment phase of their new city-wide Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP/H) broadband network for homes and businesses in York (England), which is being conducted alongside Sky Broadband (BSkyB) and TalkTalk.

Fibre optic infrastructure developer CityFibre has claimed that it will create Scotland’s first “Gigabit City” by confirming their plans to build a city-wide fibre optic broadband network in Aberdeen, which will mirror their similar Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) style roll-outs in York, Bournemouth, Peterborough and Coventry.

The Director of Strategy and Policy at urban fibre optic developer CityFibre, Mark Collins, has today revealed more to ISPreview.co.uk about their Joint Venture plans with Sky Broadband and TalkTalk to roll-out an “ultra-fast” 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP/H) broadband network for UK homes in three cities, starting with York.

Fibre optic infrastructure developer CityFibre have signed a strategic partnership with Coventry City Council in England, which has enabled the firm to acquire Coventry’s 140km metro fibre network (Coventry CORE). The network will now be upgraded and extended in order to make broadband speeds of 1000Mbps available to local businesses.
