UPDATE Cityfibre and Updata Sign UK Fibre Optic Network Access Agreement

Wednesday, Mar 9th, 2016 (10:01 am) - Score 556

Updata Infrastructure, which is part of Capita IT Enterprise Services and delivers public sector focused network connectivity solutions, has today signed a new deal that will allow them to access Cityfibre’s existing UK network of urban focused ultrafast fibre optic (FTTP) cables and related infrastructure.

A present Cityfibre operates 36 major networks and they aim to deploy in a total of 50 UK cities by 2020. The new deal means that Cityfibre’s network will be harnessed as a platform for serving Updata’s growing list of public sector and enterprise customers, as well as providing the company with an “option to migrate existing customers where commercially preferable or technically essential“.

Bruce Strang, Managing Director of Updata, said:

“We look forward to working together with CityFibre to offer reliable and flexible, high standard network services to our clients, and to further strengthen our position as the UK’s leading networks integrator. Our clients’ demands are constantly growing and it is important that we can meet them by leveraging the best possible network infrastructure available in the UK.”

Rob Hamlin, CityFibre’s Commercial Director, added:

“A framework agreement with Updata, the UK’s leading provider of public sector services and part of the wider Capita Group, cements CityFibre’s position as a key supplier to the sector. As an emerging national alternative to Openreach, our networks provide Updata with a superior platform over which they can continue to innovate and grow. We look forward to announcing a succession of joint projects in the coming year.”

End.

UPDATE 30th June 2016

CityFibre has announced the first call-off of dark fibre connections under its existing framework agreement with Capita IT Services Limited. This initial call-off will see them connect 109 schools and public sector sites served by Capita on the existing CityFibre footprint, in line with the standard financial metrics laid out in the framework.
