CityFibre’s on-going work to build a new 62km long fibre optic network in Hull (East Yorkshire, England), which is part of a major long-term deal to supply capacity for local mobile operators EE and Three UK (here), has found a way to slash its costs by harnessing some of MS3‘s existing network in the area.

A new online YouGov poll of 100 IT decision makers in Scotland, which was commissioned by Cityfibre, has reported that 92% of respondents view high quality, fast broadband as important to the success of their company and yet 52% felt as if connectivity in Scotland was worse than other parts of the UK.

Internet providers Sky Broadband and TalkTalk have launched a new website called Ultra Fibre Optic (UFO), which appears designed to showcase the forthcoming commercial launch of their new 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network for residents in the city of York (England).

In a surprise move Ofcom’s Business Connectivity Market Review (BCMR2016) has done a U-turn on its 2012 policy by proposing that rival ISPs, specifically those that provide Leased Lines, should be granted access to BT’s national Dark Fibre network (i.e. un-lit fibre optic lines that have spare capacity for coping with future demand).

UK ISP TalkTalk has posted their latest results for Q1-2015 (calendar), which revealed that the provider added +47k broadband subscribers in the quarter to total 4,283,000 (sharply up from +15k added in Q4 2014). But there’s bad news for some of the recent off-net (BT based) broadband customer gains from Virgin Media and Tesco.

Fixed wireless ISP Pure Broadband has today announced that they will be the first ISP to use CityFibre’s dark fibre optic backbone connectivity network to power their wireless mast sites throughout the city of Hull in East Yorkshire (England), which marks a significant upgrade to Pure’s existing network that has been in use since 2008.

Fibre optic infrastructure builder CityFibre has partnered up with local business ISP Commsworld to roll-out a new 150km long “ultra-fast” pure fibre optic broadband network in the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh. The huge project represents CityFibre’s largest “Gigabit City” investment and its second deployment in Scotland.
