Mobile operator Vodafone have today announced that their Rural Open Sure Signal (Femtocell) technology has been deployed to seven remote villages in Cumbria (England), which means they can now access 3G based Mobile Broadband and voice services for the first time.

Residents of Garsdale and Dentdale in rural Cumbria (England) are debating two possible fixes for securing faster broadband, which follows last year’s dramatic failure of the Fibre GarDen (Digital Dales) scheme. One of the options involves going back to BT, while the other would call in the B4RN team.

The row over Fibre GarDen’s (Digital Dales) failure to roll-out an ultrafast FTTP broadband network to the rural Cumbria (England) villages of Garsdale and Dentdale has deepened today after the project said that ITS Technology Group was likely to be of “breach of contract” over their gap funding deal.

The ITS Technology Group has offered to buy the Digital Dales (Fibre GarDen) project, which was hoping to deploy an ultrafast FTTP broadband network to the rural Cumbria (England) villages of Garsdale and Dentdale until it was stalled by funding problems and a contractor dispute (here and here).
