EE UK Offers Free Calls and Data to Nepal After Devastating Floods
Mobile network operator EE (inc. BT) has notified UK customers in Nepal (South Asia) that, due to the devastating impact of yesterday’s catastrophic flash flood and mudslide on the Nepal-Tibet border, they’re promising to credit back charges for mobile calls, texts and data (mobile broadband) used in the country, as well as mobile and landline calls from the UK to Nepal.
The time-limited offer has been backdated to start from Wednesday 26th August, although it will only continue to run until Sunday 30th August: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the Nepal flash floods. We’re crediting back charges for mobile calls, texts and data used in Nepal, as well as mobile and landline calls from the UK to Nepal, between 26 August and 30 August (inclusive),” said EE.
However, EE warns that mobile signals in the area might be affected by damage to local networks and equipment. So far the event, which was triggered by a glacial collapse and subsequent debris flow, has killed at least 359 people in Nepal and left nearly 1,400 people missing across the region, including a fair number of British travellers among them.
