The ITS Technology Group has today signed a new multi-million pound 20-year concession deal with Nottingham City Council, which gives them access to deploy superfast broadband services along an existing 17km fibre optic network that follows the local tram routes (this will be extended to 100km).

The Aylesbury Vale Broadband project in rural Buckinghamshire (England) has confirmed that their 300Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network has now completed its extension via private land from North Marston and managed to reach the village of Swanbourne.

Fibre optic developer Cityfibre has issued an update on the £5.6m deal with Edinburgh City Council in Scotland, which is extending their existing Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) broadband network in the city to around 150km. The work is now expected to complete by the end of next month.

Once again Cityfibre has chosen Bradford-based Exa Networks to be its ISP partner for the launch of their new ultrafast multi-Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband / Ethernet network in the city and metropolitan borough of Sheffield (South Yorkshire, England).

CityFibre has announced that their 90km long fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network in the city of Peterborough (East England), which was completed over one year ago and originally only intended to connect 107 public sector sites, has now received an order to connect another 220.

Lord Smith of Finsbury (Chris Smith), who is Chairman of the United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Agency, has put down another complaint against ISPs that promote slower hybrid-fibre FTTC (VDSL) connections as “fibre optic broadband“. Apparently it’s because pure FTTP/H lines are still too “niche,” but he acknowledges that this may change in the future.
