Carillion telent has announced a 3-year extension (extendable to 5 years) to its framework agreement with Openreach (BT), which could be worth up to £1.5bn. They’re BT’s main delivery partner for the management, maintenance and upgrading of their UK “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P/G.fast) network.

Shropshire-based ISP Aquiss has announced that their “Family Unlimited Fibre” (FTTC) broadband services are all being offered with 3 months of free service to new customers who order before 28th February 2017, although this doesn’t include phone line rental (optional service).

TalkTalk has today published their quarterly trading update (Q4 2016 calendar), which doesn’t reveal a lot but did confirm that their “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) base had grown by +74,000. Sadly overall on-net churn has risen to 1.6% (up from 1.4% at the last report), with -42,000 subscribers lost.

The Superfast Northamptonshire project in England has today signed two new contracts – worth £10.23m – with rural fibre optic ISP Gigaclear, which will enable the provider to roll-out their ultrafast (1Gbps+) Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) broadband network to 6,330 premises.

The £15m Get Digital Faster project, which is already working to extend the coverage of Openreach’s (BT) “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network to 47,000+ premises in the Greater Manchester (England) area, has announced that a further 2,900 will also benefit thanks to clawback of £1.4m.

Property developer CALA and Openreach (BT) have finally agreed, following our article last year (here), to roll-out a “fibre broadband” (FTTC) service to “around” 330 new build homes in Surrey (Brookwood Farm) and 260 in Reading (Orangery and Parklands).

Internet provider TalkTalk has today reduced the price of their ‘up to’ 38Mbps and ‘up to’ 76Mbps FTTC based “Fibre Broadband” packages for new subscribers on an 18 month contract and they’ve also removed the £50 one-off setup fee. The offers are expected to be available until 16th March 2017.

BT has today published their latest quarterly results (Q4 2016 calendar), which saw their retail broadband base grow by +83k to total 9,276,000 subscribers (up from +76k added in Q3) and Openreach report that 7,177,000 now take an FTTC/P based “fibre broadband” service via their UK network.

The Community Fibre Partnerships scheme that BT setup a little while back, which is a co-funded approach that works with local groups in order to deliver faster broadband into poorly served areas, has so far helped to cover 20,000 extra premises across the UK and they’re set to deliver 40,000.

A new report from Point Topic has revealed that the total number of world fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.25% during Q3 2016 and now stands at 822.7 Million (up from 745m one year earlier), with the majority of growth being fuelled by pure fibre optic (FTTH/P) connectivity.

Communications provider EE has further reduced the price of their ‘up to’ 76Mbps capable unlimited ‘Fibre Plus Broadband‘ (FTTC) package today, which is now just £32.50 per month for the first 18 months of service (£40.50 thereafter) and there’s also a £32 one-off connection fee.
