Cityfibre, which is currently deploying a 1Gbps FTTH broadband ISP network across the UK, has teamed up with one of their civil engineering partners, Callan Connect, to conduct the first tests on a live build site of a new British-made smart Glove that claims to prevent Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS or “White Finger“).

The FibreNation project, which is currently being acquired by Cityfibre from UK ISP TalkTalk for £200m (here), has today announced that they’ve begun work to roll-out their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to 6,000 premises across the town of Batley in Yorkshire by the end of 2022.

The Government’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak MP, has today issued his first 2020 budget and reiterated their plan to invest £5bn of public money to help spread “gigabit-capable” broadband ISP networks across the UK by the end of 2025, as well as to push it into new build homes.

After a long wait Cityfibre has finally confirmed that they will begin the £45m build of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network in the Derbyshire (England) city of Derby during “late spring” 2020, which will aim to cover “nearly every home and business” (usually reaching 85%+ of local premises).

The FTTHCouncil Europe has today announced that their annual conference on full fibre broadband connectivity, which was this year due to be held between 21st and 23rd April 2020 in Berlin (Germany), has been significantly delayed to the end of the year as a result of rising concern over the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19.

Last week we revealed that UK ISP BT had begun consumer trials of a new 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband package – ‘Full Fibre 900 HALO‘ – using Openreach’s national network (here). As predicted the provider has today officially confirmed that such a product will be launched “later this month.”

Full fibre UK ISP Jurassic Fibre, which toward the end of 2019 began to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in South West England (here), has issued an update on their progress and to announce the next set of deployment locations in East Devon.

UK ISP G.Network, which is currently deploying a new gigabit-capable (10Gbps) Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network to homes and businesses across parts of central London, is reportedly seeking an investment boost of around £200 million in order to accelerate their future roll-out plans.

Full fibre builder Cityfibre has today confirmed that an additional 36 UK cities and towns have been added to their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband roll-out programme (total of 62), which working with ISPs like Vodafone and TalkTalk aims to eventually cover 8 million premises by 2025 or a bit later.

A cross-party group of MPs (select committee) has today launched a new inquiry, which will examine how “realistic” the Government’s challenging “ambition” is for ensuring that every home and business in the United Kingdom can access a “gigabit-capable broadband” service by 2025. It will also look at the role of 5G mobile.

Rural focused fixed wireless and full fibre (FTTP) ISP Airband, which aims to cover a further 50,000 premises across the whole of England and Wales by 2021, has so far hired an additional 40 staff this year and they’ve just appointed Jeffrey Kriek to be their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Sixty homes in the tiny rural Monmouthshire (Wales) village of Llanddewi Rhydderch have finally gone live on a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which has been installed by Broadway Partners (UK ISP Broadway Broadband) and is intended to complement their existing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) trial.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has found that 9 OECD countries out of 37 in total now have high-speed “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband making up 50% or more of their fixed internet connections, although sadly the UK is near the bottom of this table. But we’re growing fast.

The UK Fibre Connectivity Forum (UKFCF) is today “calling on” the property sector (house builders etc.) to work with network builders, operators and broadband ISPs to help deliver on the Government’s “gigabit-capable” ambitions by 2025, not least by getting infrastructure to where it’s needed and driving efficiencies.

The latest independent modelling of “gigabit” (1000Mbps+ / 1Gbps+) capable broadband technologies and coverage has revealed that related ISP networks are now available to 14.32% of UK homes and businesses (4.3 million premises), which compares with 12.40% for “full fibre” (FTTP) networks (3.7m).
