Rural fibre optic broadband ISP Gigaclear has claimed that fever over the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia is turning into “white-hot rage over terrible internet connections.” Meanwhile mobile operator EE saw broadband usage “drop drastically” throughout all matches, while 4G mobile traffic did the opposite.

The ITS Technology Group, which has built a mix of fibre optic and wireless broadband ISP networks around the UK, has secured another round of investment from private equity firms. A team of German scientists have found that they can also be used to detect Earthquakes, as well as other seismic signals from hammer shots, passing cars or wave movements in the ocean.

The city of Exeter in Devon (England) has today been confirmed by Openreach (BT) as the 9th urban location where their “Fibre First” programme will aim to roll-out 1Gbps (Gigabit) capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast broadband ISP technology, which aims to cover 3 million UK premises by the end of 2020.

The state aid fuelled Connecting Cheshire project, which is working with Openreach (BT) to extend the local reach of “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) ISP networks to an additional 100,000 premises by the end of 2018 (98% coverage), has announced that 95% of Cheshire East can now access “superfast” speeds of 24Mbps+.

The CEO of alternative network ISP Gigaclear, Matthew Hare, has today announced that he is stepping down after 8 years of building Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTP) broadband networks to rural parts of the UK. The company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mike Surrey, will become its interim CEO.
