UK ISP BT appears to have quietly introduced a new product page for “broadband only deals,” which remove the requirement to bundle in a home phone (voice) service (probably SOGEA). Previously, you either got a traditional copper line or a Digital Voice (VoIP) solution, but not a standalone option.

The BT Group has today published their Q2 2020/21 results, which saw Openreach expand their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 3.5 million UK premises (up from 2.98m last quarter). The full fibre build rate has now hit 40,000 premises per week (up from c.34,000).

Openreach (BT) has informed ISPs with Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL2) and G.fast broadband lines that they will “soon” be deploying functionality that allows providers who wish to purchase this to amend Dynamic Line Management (DLM) profiles on customer lines, which sounds as if it may be more flexible than prior approaches.

The change to Daylight Saving Time (DST) on Sunday, which saw clocks go back by 1 hour, has given some customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband – specifically a few of those with a VoIP based Sky Talk service and the SR203/204 (Sky Hub) router, a reprieve from an otherwise on-going timing bug.

UK ISP BT is sending out invites for a new trial, which will see them “teaming up” with EE to offer a special discount when a customer takes both a BT Broadband and EE Mobile service. Normally both providers, despite being part of the same group, would treat their customers as being separate but that may soon change.

4th August, 2020 (6 Comments)

A recent update to Sky Broadband’s latest SR203/204 Sky Hub wireless router appears to have caused a bug for the ISP’s VoIP using customers, which results in a 1 hour time difference on DECT handsets that can sometimes prevent calls from reaching the customer. But a fix is coming, even if we don’t know when.
