UK ISP and energy provider Shell Energy has just joined the early Black Friday club by discounting prices across their range of “superfast” (FTTC) and “ultrafast” (G.fast) based broadband and phone packages. The latest promotion is set to run for new customers until 7th December 2020.
As usual Shell’s Openreach based broadband packages all include a wireless router, 18-month minimum contract term, free activation, unlimited usage, copper line rental with standard call rates (PAYG) and an engineer installation.
The provider also pledges “no end-of-contract price rises” and offers “exclusive savings on fuel at Shell service stations,” as well as a vague reference to other “personalised offers and other surprises.” New customers who need a brand-new line installed will have to pay a £60 one-off charge.

SomehowI don’t see the promised “no end-of-contract price rises” here.
Your lack of understanding is palpable. As you approach 18 months end date, you contact them, explain your position, they either offer you a better choice or you can look for a better option elsewhere. NO PRICE RISE APPLIED.
I think you must be joking Pdq. I’m with Mml on this one, no end of contract price rises should mean exactly that. This should be taken to the ASA & Ofcom (if applicable) as it’s absolute b*llsh*t.
Their website clearly states:
No end-of-contract price rises
We won’t hike your broadband prices up at the end of your initial minimum contract period.
Either Mark has made a mistake or Shell Energy are full of it.
They do however also say:
Our fastest ever broadband is here
Explore our Ultrafast Fibre packages from only £29.99, with average speeds of 290mbps.
The £29.99 package has average speeds of 145Mbps, not 290Mbps, so it should really say average speeds from 145Mbps.
Marketing…
Sorry this is somewhat off topic but can someone tell me why BT and Zen can recognize I have FTTP available and the other supplies can’t? OK it only went live in the past few days but do they use different methods of checking your line?
In some areas, LLU providers like Sky and TalkTalk are the last to provide FTTP. They’ve only started to roll-out their FTTP products, whereas Zen (Which is not LLU) and BT have been doing it for a while now.
They probably don’t detect fttp because they don’t offer it. Almost no providers offer fttp. Zen by and EE and a handful of others are it.
What wireless router?
BTW backhual or TalkTalk Business LLU Backhual?
WORSE ISP – BEWARE!

Don’t forget the £15 leaving charge too. It’s deep in the terms and conditions.
Beware!
Currently trying to get G.Fast with them, getting 330Mbps does sound great, but in reality it’s very different.
Transferring across from another ISP…
A week before transferring I get a phone call saying Openreach have rejected previously agreed date of the G.Fast Install appointment, so that I will have to drop from my 70Mbps Fibre to 11Mbps broadband.
Once line is switched over to Shell, only then will they apply for another appointment with Openreach engineer. So now I am at least 3 weeks behind agreed date for getting G.Fast.
What do people think is appropriate compensation for this, bear in mind I’ve phoned them more than half a dozen times, received poor or no responses and wasted hours on chasing this up.
You should have gone for 2nd new line! Much quickest way.
Sam – why would I do that?
IIRC – It’s an extra £60 to install a new line.
The onus is on Shell Energy to provide the contracted service that I had signed up for, ie it should be a seemless transition and we retain same landline phone number.
Also this current offer is not as good as one in October and that was available via Topcashback for an attractive joining kickback, sadly I’m beginning to regret being lured and tempted into signing up.
She’ll energy are a deceitful fuel supplier, when I requested their cheapest tarrif they tied me into a contract for three years i then found out I was paying nearly 18p a kw for electricity! Do not fall for their spiel.
This company is one sick puppy. Totally ripped me off.
Charged double.
