The Gloucestershire and Herefordshire UK councils appear to be on the verge of agreeing a new £14m Broadband Strategy for their joint Fastershire project, which will run until the end of 2022 and aims to extend the reach of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) ISP networks into some of the most poorly served parts of both counties.

Earlier this year we reported that fibre builder Full Fibre Limited had tentative plans to expand a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network (here) to reach “rural and semi-urban areas” around Devon, Surrey, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The build is now underway.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) ISP Airband has issued a short update on their state aid supported Fastershire contract. The provider is rolling out a new hybrid wireless and fibre optic 100Mbps+ broadband network to cover 10 rural communities (dispersed clusters) in Herefordshire (England), which has just gone live in Tedstone Wafre.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and full fibre FTTP ISP Airband has announced that they’ve recruited additional engineers and extended their fleet to cope with increased demand as it deploys “high speed broadband” deeper into rural Shropshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Devon and Somerset.

Worcester-based ISP Airband has announced that they’ve begun the state aid supported roll-out of a new hybrid wireless and fibre optic broadband network to cover 10 rural communities (dispersed clusters) in Herefordshire (England), which forms part of a contract with the wider Fastershire programme.

A bit of good news from rural “full fibre” provider Gigaclear, for a change. The ISP has announced that Greenmeadows Park (Bamfurlong, Cheltenham), which was last year named as the slowest street for broadband speeds in the United Kingdom, has now become one of the fastest after a 900Mbps+ capable FTTH network went live.

The imaginatively named Exeter-based business ISP Full Fibre Limited, which currently claims to operate a core network between its two data-centres in London and fibre broadband access networks in Devon and Surrey, has revealed that they have tentative plans to expand their fibre network.

The state aid supported Fastershire project, which is working to extend superfast broadband services across Gloucestershire and Herefordshire in England, has announced that a revised “full fibre” (FTTP) roll-out plan from UK ISP partner Gigaclear could be approved and published by the end of this month.

The Fastershire scheme in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire (England) has confirmed that they’ve sent Gigaclear’s revised Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband roll-out plan back to the drawing board. The move follows last year’s news (here), which revealed that the UK ISP’s contract had suffered “unexpected delays.”

Alternative rural UK ISP Gigaclear is still reeling from the embarrassment of having to make a public apology for the “significant” delays to their roll-out of “full fibre” (FTTP) ultrafast broadband in Devon and Somerset (here). Now they’ve also had to do the same for Northamptonshire.

Some residents in the rural Gloucestershire UK village of Chalford have vented anger at Gigaclear after the ISP’s roll-out of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network allegedly damaged properties, caused “intolerable vibration” in some homes and a worker had their legs struck by a digger.

Openreach today confirmed they will deploy their “superfast fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network to cover a further 7,200 homes and businesses in the UK counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire (completion by the end of 2019), which comes after BT signed a new £5.1m contract under the Fastershire project.
