Reports suggest that EE will move to completely phase out their Orange and T-Mobile brands in the United Kingdom ahead of BT’s acquisition, which is partly because the national incumbent has no plans to retain them. On top of that EE will stop selling separate 3G contracts and instead focus on 4G.

Global broadband ISP speed testing outfit Ookla have revamped their Net Index (Speedtest.net) service to include a useful summary of download and upload speeds for Mobile Broadband operators in the United Kingdom (as well as other countries). Interestingly the fastest operator is T-Mobile.

Mobile network operator EE (4GEE) has announced that its superfast 4G (LTE at 1800MHz) based Mobile Broadband network can now reach 55% of the United Kingdom’s population across 85 towns and cities.

Mobile operator’s Three UK and EE have come top in the latest annual study of roaming Mobile Broadband performance. Overall Three UK delivered the highest peak internet download speed of 8.66Mbps (Megabits per second), while EE delivered the best average speed of 3.43Mbps. But once again it’s bad news for Vodafone.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned several ads for TalkTalk’s YouView TV product, which misleadingly described the set-top-box as being “free” despite a £50 install fee. The watchdog also banned an ad for T-Mobile’s (EE) £36 Full Monty Plan after it promoted “Unlimited internet” despite a Traffic Management policy.
