Ofcom Say New Freeview HD TV Channels at 600MHz Won’t Hinder 5G

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has warned that today’s move by Ofcom (here), which has created the “opportunity” for 10 new Freeview HD TV channels to be launched by using airwaves in the 600MHz radio spectrum band, could hinder the plan to free up existing 700MHz spectrum for use by future ultra-fast 5G based Mobile Broadband services.

Mobile operator’s Three UK and EE have come top in the latest annual study of roaming Mobile Broadband performance. Overall Three UK delivered the highest peak internet download speed of 8.66Mbps (Megabits per second), while EE delivered the best average speed of 3.43Mbps. But once again it’s bad news for Vodafone.

A new RootMetrics study of EE’s allegedly faster Mobile Broadband speeds has revealed that just 40.2% of its test locations had access to the 4G (1800MHz) network, yet speeds averaged 17Mbps (Megabits per second) in locations where it was available and 7.6Mbps when only 3G connectivity could be found.
