Alternative rural UK broadband network Voneus has been criticised after a network fault resulted in two premises in villages near Brecon (Wales) losing connectivity, which by itself wouldn’t be a huge development. But in this case, the provider later chose to “decommission” the service rather than repair it, leaving those affected offline.

Alternative UK broadband network Voneus has today officially confirmed what we touched on last month (here), which reveals that they’ve strengthened their position for “long-term growth” with a business reorganisation and have secured funding through to 2030 (i.e. renegotiation of an existing £70m debt facility). But more job cuts are set to follow.

The Senior MD at Macquarie, Oliver Bradley, has revealed that that one of the alternative broadband networks they support, Voneus, recently completed a renegotiation on their existing £70m debt facility over the summer. The move saw existing investors inject an unspecified amount of fresh funding to keep the operator going.

The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has just announced that their Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contract for Mid West Shropshire (Lot 25.01), which was originally held by Voneus until they “mutually agreed to terminate” it at the end of 2024 (here), has now been merged into Openreach’s (BT) existing call-off 3 deployment contract.

Rural UK broadband operator Voneus, which continues to deploy a gigabit-capable fixed wireless access (FWA) and full fibre (FTTP) networks across poorly served rural areas, has announced that they’ve deployed their wireless network across the small Carmarthenshire (Wales) town of St. Clears.

The Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) in Wales has signed a new agreement that will allow rural ISP Voneus to install their fixed wireless gigabit broadband network equipment on top of local street lighting columns, which will make it easier for them to expand into the county’s poorly served rural communities.

In an unexpected development, the Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has just announced that rural broadband ISP Voneus have “mutually agreed to terminate” the £12m (state aid) Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contract for Mid West Shropshire (Lot 25.01), which would have expanded a full fibre (FTTP) network to 6,000 premises in hard to reach areas.
