Wales Moot 3rd Open Market Review of BT Superfast Broadband Plan

The Welsh Government has warned that it might need to launch a third Open Market Review in order to determine the extent of commercial Superfast Broadband availability, which follows concerns that initial predictions might have underestimated the expected pre-Digital Wales coverage of BT’s FTTC/P services.

The Welsh Government‘s new Access Broadband Cymru (ABC) scheme, which provides grants of up to £1,000 per premise in areas which have “slow broadband connections” (i.e. sub-2Mbps), has been criticised for a potential cock-up in its eligibility criteria that could prevent thousands of legitimate applicants from applying.

151 New Areas in Wales UK to Get Hybrid Fibre Broadband by Spring 2015

The Welsh Government has today announced that another 151 towns and villages in Wales will get access to BT’s fibre broadband (FTTC/P) network by spring 2015 (covering 206,000 premises). The new areas join 120 communities that have already been announced (here) for upgrades by spring 2014.
