The latest quarterly (Q3 2016 calendar) results have been published by BT today, which reveal that their retail broadband base now tops 9,193,000 customers (up by +76K, unchanged from Q2) and 4,473,000 of those take their ‘Infinity‘ (FTTC/P) superfast broadband (up by +216K vs +181K in Q2).

BT has published their latest quarterly results (calendar Q2 2016), which saw their total base of retail broadband customers top 9,117,000 (up by +76K in Q2 vs 1.045m in Q1) and 4,257,000 of those make use of their FTTC/P based Infinity superfast broadband service (up by +181K vs +214k in Q1).

Subscribers who take one of TalkTalk’s broadband, TV (YouView), phone and or mobile bundles may be displeased to learn that the ISP’s Entertainment Package of premium television will lose six of its channels from 30th June 2016, including some big names like the ‘Discovery Channel’.

BT has released its latest Q1 2016 results (calendar), which reveals that their retail division has a total of 9,041,000 broadband subscribers (up by +1.045 million in Q1 vs +130K in Q4 2015) and 4.076m of those are taking their FTTC/P based BTInfinity superfast broadband service (up by +214k vs +250K at the end of 2015).

Apparently everybody has to have their own Internet video streaming service and TalkTalk has become the latest to join the party with the launch of their new Blinkbox based pay-as-you-go (payg) TV Store, which claims to offer “the latest movies and hit TV shows at Britain’s lowest price” to everybody.

But equally there are times when it may have the opposite impact, which is something we’re starting to see in the TV content market and if left unchecked there is a risk that it may push consumers into the more accessible arms of Internet piracy.

Ofcom has finally closed a 2013 complaint by BT, which alleged that Sky was abusing a dominant position by making wholesale supply of Sky Sports 1 / 2 (TV channels) to BT’s YouView (IPTV) platform conditional on BT wholesaling their BTSport channels to Sky for retail on their satellite platform.

BT has today released its latest Q4 2015 results (calendar) and confirmed that their retail division has a total of 7,996,000 broadband subscribers (up by +130K vs +82K in Q3), with 3,689,000 of those on their superfast BTInfinity (FTTC) service (up by +250K in Q4 vs +212K in Q3). The operator has also revealed some more details about their post EE merger plans.

The 2010 decision that helped to grow BT’s broadband based TV business, which involved Ofcom imposing regulation that required Sky to offer wholesale access (“Wholesale Must Offer“) to their Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 channels (at prices set by the regulator), has today been removed.

BT has posted their latest Q3-2015 results (calendar), which reveals that their retail business now has a total of 7,879,000 broadband subscribers (up by +82K vs +83K in Q2) and 3,438,000 of those are taking their FTTC dominated BTInfinity “fibre broadband” (up by +212K in Q3 vs +217K in Q2).

Remember when BT introduced the new premium BTSport TV Pack at the start of this month for an extra £5 (here)? Do you also remember how BT then tried to force that pack onto their existing customers, unless they specifically opted-out? Well Ofcom wasn’t happy and neither were many of BT’s customers.

Sheffield-based ISP PlusNet has announced that “Unlimited Fibre” (FTTC) broadband and phone customers who also take their £5 per month YouView (IPTV) based TV service will, from 5th August 2015, also benefit from the inclusion of the BTSport Lite content at no extra cost.

BT has released the latest results for Q2-2015 (calendar) and confirmed that their retail business added +85K new broadband subscribers in the quarter (down sharply from +121K in Q1) to total 7,798,000, which includes 3,226,000 on BTInfinity “fibre broadband” (up by +217K vs +266K in Q1). Incidentally FTTC/P is now available to 23 million premises (80% of the UK).

As expected BT has today revealed the first solid details and price of their new 4K Ultra HD TV package, which claims to include “Europe’s very first live sports Ultra HD channel” (BTSport Ultra HD) and a new 4K capable 1TB YouView (IPTV) set-top-box. But you’ll need a faster than “superfast” broadband speed.

UK ISP TalkTalk has announced that their Plus TV bundle of unlimited broadband, phone (anytime calls), premium TV (YouView) and a free mobile SIM, which is priced at £10 per month and comes with a £75 Love2shop voucher, now also includes 6 months of free HD access to video streaming service Netflix (until 30th July).

It’s not all about Sport, you see. BT’s YouView (IPTV) based broadband TV service has taken another shot at arch-rival Sky (Sky Broadband) by announcing a new agreement to launch the AMC TV channel in the UK this September 2015, which includes the “exclusive” UK television premiere of “Fear the Walking Dead“.

Budget ISP TalkTalk has announced that their top Plus TV bundle of unlimited broadband, phone (anytime UK calls), premium TV content (YouView) and a free mobile SIM is being reduced from £20 to just £10 per month for the first 18 months of service. A £100 Love2shop voucher has also been thrown in.
