Sheffield-based ISP PlusNet has announced that “Unlimited Fibre” (FTTC) broadband and phone customers who also take their £5 per month YouView (IPTV) based TV service will, from 5th August 2015, also benefit from the inclusion of the BTSport Lite content at no extra cost.
The move, which comes shortly after the ISP caused frustration by lumping the full cost of the new BTSport Europe content on to those who already take the separate BTSport add-on via the Sky Digital platform (here), suggests that the reason they did that might have been to help make their own YouView based product appear more attractive.

Customers of PlusNet’s TV solution typically pay an extra £5 per month for the service and this includes the Entertainment channel pack as standard (15 premium Entertainment channels including Discovery, FOX, MTV, SyFy and History etc.). Related subscribers will now also now get BTSport Lite bundled in for free and some other channel upgrades are also available, albeit at extra cost.
As before this service is only available to PlusNet’s superfast capable “Fibre” broadband subscribers. Similarly an additional channel pack, titled simply BTSport (aka – BTSport Europe), will also be available from 5th August for an extra £5 per month and that will include the full line-up of BTSport 1, BTSport 2, BTSport Europe, BTSport // ESPN and BTSport Extra.
Apparently all of these channels on BTSport can be viewed in HD (with the exception of BTSport Extra) if the YouView HD Pack is purchased too for £3 a month. If you are an existing customer and would like to add any of the channel packs, you will be able to do so by logging into the Member Centre and clicking on “My Channel Packs” after August 4th.
Sadly those who take PlusNet’s BTSport add-on via Sky Digital won’t benefit unless they cancel and take the YouView solution instead.
